UC San Diego Academic Affiliation
Reproductive Partners Fertility Center – San Diego has an academic affiliation with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Diego, which is the only academic fertility program in San Diego County. This affiliation enables our physicians’ hands-on involvement in field-leading research that advances the treatment of infertility.
At RPSD, you’ll be in the care of physicians who have treated many types of infertility, often achieving success in some of the most difficult cases. You’ll have access to doctors who are recognized authorities on infertility and are publishing their findings in top medical journals.
You’ll be treated by some of the best and brightest minds in the study and practice of infertility, and you will benefit from our advanced knowledge, newly developed procedures, and sophisticated scientific breakthroughs.
We’re also actively training the next generation of fertility doctors. Dr. Gabriel Garzo, Dr. Jamie Stanhiser, Dr. Antoni Duleba, Dr. Irene Su, and Dr. Sanjay Agarwal all have clinical or full-time faculty appointments in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at UC San Diego. Our physicians are responsible for teaching In Vitro Fertilization to Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellows, OB-GYN Residents, and medical students.

Based on our outstanding results, our center has received the Infertility Center of Excellence (COE) designation from United Healthcare/OPTUM. This honor is based on outcome standards set by the carrier and awarded only to those few centers who meet those criteria, which include our high success rates, a continuous commitment to quality assurance, and focus on single embryo transfer. RPSD maintains a strong commitment to infertility care and the health and wellness of our patients.
LABORATORY ACCREDITATIONS
College of American Pathologists (CAP)
The College of Pathologists (CAP) is an organization that oversees the quality of fertility facilities by ensuring that labs meet rigorous standards. They do this by sending experienced embryologists from IVF programs to inspect the labs, including both the embryology, andrology, and endocrine labs. These inspections require our laboratories to maintain high quality standards throughout the year in order to pass this lengthy review of protocols, techniques, equipment and personnel, as well as documentation of the quality control, assurance and improvement in the labs. CAP’s dedication to upholding strict standards helps to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. At RPSD, we are proud to uphold the high standards set by CAP, providing our patients with top-notch care and the best chances for success in their fertility journeys.
Food & Drug Administration (FDA)
Our IVF lab is subject to unannounced inspections by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). These inspections are to assure that quality practices are employed by all laboratories that process human cells, such as sperm, eggs, and embryos.
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)
To ensure that our clinical laboratories meet high standards and provide accurate diagnostic testing, our center must obtain certification from CLIA in addition to CAP. Established by the Federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act, CLIA oversees the inspection and certification of clinical laboratories. CAP and other qualified organizations are responsible for conducting these inspections to maintain the high standards set by CLIA. By meeting the requirements set forth by these organizations, RPSD is able to provide the best possible care to our patients.
