LGBTQIA+ Family Building-Celebrating Pride Month

Reading Time: 2 minutes

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. This year, Pride Month holds special significance for us at RPSD as we observe the challenges many LGBTQIA+ members of our community face with access and rights to care being restricted. We are more committed than ever to fostering dialogue on LGBTQ+ family-building, emphasizing the importance of equitable access to care for everyone. At RPSD, we strive to ensure that these conversations and efforts continue not just during Pride Month, but throughout the entire year.

Family building is a deeply personal and joyous journey, and at RPSD, we offer a range of fertility care options designed to meet the diverse needs of the LGBTQIA+ community. Here’s a look at some of the pathways available:

  1. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI): IUI involves placing sperm directly into the uterus during ovulation, increasing the chances of conception. Donor sperm can be used from a known or anonymous donor.
  2. In Vitro Fertilization (IVF): IVF involves retrieving eggs from an ovary, fertilizing them with sperm in a lab, and transferring the resulting embryo(s) into the uterus. For gay couples, donor eggs and a gestational carrier may be needed.
  3. Reciprocal IVF: One partner provides the eggs, which are fertilized and then implanted into the other partner’s uterus. This allows both partners to be physically involved in the pregnancy process.
    • Gestational Surrogacy: This involves the use of a gestational carrier, where the surrogate carries a pregnancy for the intended parents. The embryo is created using IVF, using the intended parent’s or donor’s eggs and sperm.
  4. Donor Eggs and Sperm: Egg or sperm donors can be known or anonymous. The donation process involves thorough screening to ensure the health and suitability of the donor.
  5. Fertility Preservation: This can include egg or sperm freezing before starting hormone therapy or surgery, preserving the option for biological children in the future.

At RPSD, we understand that the path to parenthood is unique for everyone. Our team is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care, ensuring that every patient feels seen, heard, and supported. From the initial consultation to the joyous moment of welcoming a new family member, we are with you every step of the way.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity of family structures and the love that binds them. We are proud to support the LGBTQIA+ community in their family building journey, offering expert care and a welcoming environment where everyone can achieve their dream of parenthood.

Happy Pride Month from all of us at RPSD!
